Things To Do in Winter & Fall
Thankfully, there’s a wide range of fun things to do in Burnaby in winter and fall. Our Winters here aren’t as harsh as other places in Canada, which means we still get to spend a lot of time outdoors!
Hiking
That’s right! You can hike all winter long in Burnaby. Because of our location, it rarely snows here, meaning we have hiking trails open year-round. Burnaby Mountain is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Lower Mainland. There are 26 multi-use trails on Burnaby Mountain with 28km of trails open all winter long.
Skiing
Burnaby is uniquely placed. We have mild winters, but we can easily get to a number of ski hills and resorts. The best of both worlds! North Vancouver has three resorts for you to choose from; Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain and Mount Seymour. Day passes are available for these ski hills.
The world-famous ski resort Whistler Blackcomb is only a two-hour drive north on the scenic Sea to Sky Highway. There are regular buses running between Whistler and Vancouver, making day trips very convenient.
Skating
We can’t think of many activities that are more Canadian than ice skating. Immerse yourself in Canadian culture by learning how to skate this winter. We have three ice rinks here in Burnaby with a number of lessons also available. In the central valley, you can skate at Bill Copeland Sports Centre and Burnaby Lake Arena, with the Kensington Complex servicing people in north Burnaby.
Events
Burnaby Village Museum turns into a Haunted Village for Halloween. From October 25th to 28th you can visit the spooky village. Expect to see some scary ghosts, eerie moons and giant pumpkins. There’ll also be some entertainment on every night as well as some carousel rides!
