Moscrop Secondary is home to approximately 1500 students and is located in Central Burnaby. Founded in 1956, Moscrop has many esteemed programs in academics (including Honours and AP courses), the performing arts, music, as well as French Immersion. Along with other secondary schools in Burnaby, Moscrop prepares its students for life after graduation with its excellent work and career experience programs.
AP Courses Prepare Students for University Study
Moscrop offers many AP (Advanced Placement courses) which are beneficial for many reasons. They offer students a taste of university-level study and completing AP-level courses at a certain grade level can earn university credits. The subject material goes into greater depth than non-AP courses, giving students richer learning opportunities. AP courses at Moscrop include Micro and Macroeconomics, Psychology, Chinese Language and Culture, Physics, and European History.
French Immersion is Offered at Moscrop
Moscrop is one of three secondary schools in the Burnaby School District offering French Immersion from grades 8 through 12, giving students the opportunity to obtain their “Double Dogwood” diploma – a dual graduating diploma in both French and English languages.
Where the Arts Shine
Moscrop has an extensive dance program with a dedicated dance studio where students can learn and practice many dance styles, including jazz, lyrical and hip-hop. Moscrop’s music program is extensive with beginner, junior, and senior bands, orchestra, junior and senior choir, and junior and senior jazz bands.
Work Experience Programs at Moscrop Are Extensive
Burnaby School District is actively helping its students gain an edge in their career prospects after graduation with work experience programs. ACE-IT (Youth Train In Trades), Industry Connect, and Industry Certification Programs connect grade 11 and 12 students to industries that interest them, and provide valuable work experience prior to graduation.
Students work between 30-90 hours in one of many focus areas that interest them, such as business and applied business, health, science and applied science, and skilled trades. This gives students many advantages. First, it can lead to part-time employment with the employer on weekends or during the summer. Second, it gives the students a realistic look at the field to see if it is right for them, before taking extensive training in that occupation. Third, it gives them valuable industry contacts.

Students with an interest in working in the healthcare field can take advantage of the Industry Connect program at Moscrop (also open to students attending other secondary schools within the Burnaby School District) which specialises in health sciences. How does it work? In grade 11 or 12, students who have successfully completed or are currently enrolled in various science courses such as Math 11 Pre-Calculus and Biology 11 may enrol in the program. The program consists of coursework focusing on biology, chemistry, physiology, as well as lectures and labs at BCIT, meetings with mentors enrolled in health science programs at BCIT, studying patient case scenarios, and practicum experience opportunities for program credit. This will prepare students for a potential future career in the healthcare field.
Moscrop Athletics
Moscrop Secondary (home of the Panthers) offers a wide variety of sports opportunities to its students. Currently, students may participate in rugby, skiing, snowboarding, aquatics, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, badminton, tennis, ice hockey, and soccer, among others.
Moscrop’s Clubs Have Something for Everyone
Moscrop students have a wide variety of clubs to choose from, including Robotics, Debating, United Nations, Gaming, Entrepreneurship, Moscrop Prowler (the school’s print and online newspaper), Martial Arts, and Improv. Members of Moscrop’s Math Club have performed well at the University of Waterloo’s math competitions.
