Latin

The Burnaby School District is the only public school district in British Columbia to offer Latin throughout the academic year, September to June. This is a small, personalized tutorial primarily for our German and Italian high school students who need to maintain their classical studies while they are studying abroad. This is not an entry level course.

Students at any of our eight secondary schools meet once a week at one designated school, after school from 4 – 5:30 pm, for this free tutorial. We encourage students to bring an outline of material to be covered from their teacher in their home country school so the professor can tailor the program to each student’s needs. There is a significant amount of homework involved in order to keep up with the course work.

In all years, students attending this tutorial have consistently performed well on the Canadian National Latin Exams, winning gold, silver and bronze medals.

Students will receive a report with a grade and teacher comments at the end of their program. This report is supplementary to the official school report that will be issued.
