Miranda Collett and Carolyn Chen, two students at Burnaby Mountain Secondary are heading to Oxford University, England to compete in the Finals Day debate competition in March. They were the only duo in Western Canada to qualify for the prestigious event which is attended by top high school debate teams from around the globe.
Cariboo Hill Secondary is adding five new academies for Burnaby students. Starting in the Fall of 2018, Cariboo Hill will offer a DigiPen Gaming Academy, a Palo Alto Cyber Security Academy, and Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. Lacrosse and volleyball academies will also be offered, making Cariboo Hill a new hub for personalised learning.
Burnaby Mountain, with a student population of 1500, is located in the North-East region of Burnaby near Simon Fraser University. Mountain has a diverse student population and offers its students a wide range of programs and courses. The winter holidays are the perfect time for socialising with friends, and enjoying the best of the festive season – which often means indulging in lots of treats. It is also a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors in Burnaby and surrounding areas.
Burnaby Central Secondary School’s building and surrounding facilities are a source of pride for its students. And for good reason: the gleaming new $55-million building opened its doors to great fanfare in 2012, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by then-Premier Christy Clark, and Minister of Education George Abbott.
Christmas and Winter Holidays are coming and it is time to start planning what you will do over the Christmas Break. From December 25th to January 5th, Burnaby schools close and you will need to fill up your itinerary above and beyond any homework. Luckily there is no shortage of things to do in Metro Vancouver so make some time for fun.
