Health & Wellness
Burnaby offers a safe, welcoming environment that supports the physical and emotional wellbeing of all students. We know that when students feel good, they are more confident, better able to manage stress, and more likely to succeed both academically and personally. We offer dedicated support staff, strong school-based services, and a wide variety of programs and community resources to support students’ mental and physical health.
Our school district works in partnership with Fraser Health to support health promotion, illness prevention, and the wellbeing of students. Nurses visit schools regularly to help with immunizations, health screenings, and health education.
Health insurance is required for all students, and the International Education Department helps students with information about coverage, medical clinics, and where to go if they need help. Burnaby has numerous medical clinics and its own hospital.
Burnaby schools are committed to building a school community where students feel a sense of belonging and are supported in their emotional and mental health.
- Each school has one or more Counsellors to support students with social and emotional concerns, as well as personal and academic guidance.
- Our International Student Support Team works closely with the Counsellors and connects students with additional help as needed.
- We encourage students to speak with someone they trust when they feel overwhelmed. Our schools create a safe and supportive environment where students can ask for help.
- International students ages 13+ have access to the Guard.me app, offering 24/7 multilingual counselling.
